One cute kid surrounded by Birthday Cheer!
This is a classic birthday pose, Big D looking on at the Legos and Bear holding his throat after coughing !!
Do not let this little ship fool you---there are like 80 step by step directions for assembly! Eek! But Check out the cool continuous action catapults---serious artillery friends! Alright Grandma---do you get the feel for it now after Bear's 20 minute description??
Happy enough to go with the flow!
Bear's much anticipated 5th birthday was this week. We do friend birthday parties every other year, and fun family parties on the "off" year. Bear had a pirate friend party last year when he turned 4, so this year, we planned to go bowling as a family! On his actual birthday we had scheduled his two best buddies from preschool to come over to play and make rice krispies!
Well...that was the plan anyway...Around 2 a.m. on his Birthday, Bear woke up with that horrible deep chested croup cough and a fever. Sigh. On to plan B...
So in the morning, we opened presents from Grandma and Grandpa and from Mom and Dad. We usually open presents after the big ol dinner and fun dessert, but we figured since he was going to be home all day without buddies--he may as well enjoy his new toys! We made Sticky Buns and Hot Chocolate with whipped cream---which he didn't touch and he said "Maybe I'll just lay on the couch for awhile."
I called his preschool and told her we wouldn't be coming in and maybe we could do birthday treats next week. Then, I called his little buddies (after having a heart to heart with Bear who was still convinced they could come over) and rearranged for next week as well.
Cutest and Saddest part was that Bear wanted to talk to his buddy Mark...and the conversation on this end of the phone went like this:
Bear: Hi Mark, let's play on another day, cause I'm not feeling so good (at which point his little scratchy voice broke--and we could truly feel his sadness emerge--- =(
Agggghhhh! Well, we know how to do a plan B! As soon as his Tylenol took effect, he did drink some hot chocolate and then for the next 3 hours, Bear, Pop and Mom hunched over on the floor building Legos and Bionicles and sampling every toy!
Thanks to all the cousins and Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents that called! He just beamed every time the phone rang!
We postponed his Birthday dinner to the next night due to sickness, scouts, soccer and YW! And hey---at least the next day he had more of an appetite. Now his sis Lissa has it (so we have postponed bowling) and now she is not touching her food, and Bear confided in me: "Ya know mom, food just doesn't have the right tasting when you are sick!"
Hope you are all healthy!

He's such a cutie. I love his lectures and I must admit that the picture was just a tad off the mark from his description!!! But it looks so cool and how cool YOU got to put it together..he he he!!!
Man! We do need to move to AZ for the treats alone!! ;) We were sad we didn't get to talk to him, but hope he smiled at the message we left!! Sick is not fun for sure, I just got over the stomach flu. That makes food not have the right tasting for sure!
Ohhhh, we totally have another version of that lego catapulting thing...it took some definite teamwork to put that thing together! Hope all are better at your house!
