Post The Awards Swimming Party!
Lissa on the Podium awaiting the Start!
Well we survived another season of swim team with early morning practices and long, hot swimming meets on Saturdays. But the many days of practice paid off into Champion Swimmers! All three, Mc, Big D and Lissa passed through the preliminary meets and were invited with their top racing times to the championship meet. The city takes the top 16 swimmers in each age group and swimming event, eliminating 30-50 kids in each age group in the process.
Mc placed first in the prelims for 50 meter Breast Stroke. Her time was so fast at that meet, that I was nervous that they had incorrectly timed her. However, She beat her score in the championship meet by over a second (that's a PR! Hip hip hooray!) landing her the first place medal with a time of 40.39 (finishing close to 2 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer 42.22, not to mention that Mc's time even beat all the boys her age except one). You go girl! She also swam the 50 yard Butterfly (43.13) and the 200 Yard Individual Medley (3.22.88), placing 7th in each, still shaving her PR (personal record) on the IM by 8 seconds. That is an exhausting race to sprint---but she handles it gracefully! Way to go Mc!
Big D raced in the 100 yard Freestyle and 50M Breastroke and 25 M Butterfly. He finished 5th in Freestyle (1.26.01)and Breaststroke (50.52) and finished 4th in Butterfly (19.87)! He is a consistent good finisher, and does well across the board! His proudest moment though was at the awards party in a race against his dad on Freestyle, Big D won twice. Bummer Dad!
Lissa is a fantastic swimmer, who had a bit of a slow day. She had amazing clocked times at the Prelims, but was a little on the tired side at the championship meet. She was seeded 2nd in 25 Meter Breastroke and came in 6th (26.20). Luckily for tender feelings her ribbons for Freestyle (20.26) and IM (2.07.61 PR) say 1st place in Championship Consolation Heat. Which means, 9th place in both. However it is still quite exciting to watch her come in first in her heat! Gotta love the fun! I'm the loudest cheerleader mom on the sidelines---and Mc actually told me---"it helps mom!"
What a great sport. I'm feeling confident that we will come back for more!
